Join us for a fascinating evening with local historian Oliver Davey, fresh from his appearance on BBC Points West, as he shares the remarkable story of American troops stationed in Bristol during WWII.

Inspired by his Great Aunt’s marriage to a GI, Oliver’s research uncovers the significant presence and legacy of US forces in the city – from the arrival of black GIs at Avonmouth in 1942, to General Omar Bradley’s HQ at Clifton College where plans for D-Day were made.

Discover:
The racial segregation of US troops and a riot on Park Street
⚾ A US Army baseball league on the Downs
The transformation of Frenchay into a US military hospital
The building of the Leyland showroom in Warmley for jeeps
And much more, including lesser-known local sites linked to the US presence

This talk sheds light on an often-overlooked chapter of Bristol’s wartime history and promises to be both informative and thought-provoking.

Spaces are limited, so be sure to reserve your seat early!
