Join us on 13th May for an inspiring evening with Bristol author, journalist and editor Jane Duffus, as she brings to life the remarkable stories behind her acclaimed Women Who Built Bristol series.

First published in 2018 to coincide with the centenary of (some) women winning the vote, Jane’s three volumes now profile 750 overlooked women and girls who helped shape Bristol’s history. From war and medicine to activism, science, the arts and sport — these are the stories that too often went untold.

You’ll hear about extraordinary characters such as:

A wartime welder

A suffragist photographer

A feminist strongwoman

A globe-trotting astronomer

Shopkeeping sisters who defied the odds

…and the formidable Hester Davis of Warmley, who in 1880 led local women to ensure their neighbours could afford flour during a famine.
